How to Care for a Resin Floor — Cleaning and Maintenance

Good news: a seamless resin floor is one of the easiest floors to maintain that exists. No grout for dirt to get into, no pores to soak up stains. A few simple rules keep it looking like the handover day a decade on.

Daily care — less is more

Day to day, sweeping or vacuuming dust and sand plus mopping with lukewarm water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent is enough. The smooth, non-porous surface doesn't hold dirt, so no aggressive products are needed. It's one of the reasons resin ends up in homes, apartments and garages.

What to avoid

  • Strongly acidic and strongly alkaline agents (they can dull the topcoat over time).
  • Abrasive scourers and grinding pastes — they leave micro-scratches on the gloss.
  • Dragging heavy objects across the floor unprotected — put felt or cardboard underneath.
  • Leaving pools of aggressive chemicals (fuel, solvent) for long — wipe them up promptly.

How to protect the gloss

The biggest enemy of gloss is sand carried in on shoes and tires — it acts like sandpaper. A doormat at the entrance and pads under furniture legs do more for the floor's looks than any product. High-gloss floors, like our metallic surfaces, reward this with a deep sheen for years.

Garage — salt, oil and winter

In a garage there's road salt and oil. Salt is best rinsed off with water once the car has dried, and oil stains wiped before they spread — resin doesn't absorb them, so they come off easily. In winter a drip tray under the wheels helps limit pools of melting, salty snow.

A refresh after years

If after many years of heavy use the gloss dulls in places, you don't need to replace the whole floor — usually a light sanding and a fresh topcoat is enough. That's a fraction of the cost of a new installation.
